Los Angeles, Montreal, Chicago
I spent a year restoring paintings, photos and prints at the
Chicago Conservation Center. The work generally involved
repairing damage caused by fire, flood or age.
I am a firm believer in public education. It fosters an open
and diverse atmosphere. The students here are truly interested
in each other's welfare. I've had the great pleasure of
getting to know many people on a very personal and intimate
level and look forward to seeing them succeed as professionals.
The community has been wonderful for my family.
My wife
Denise and I love spending time with our two children,
Tomas (age 4) and Ella (age 1) at the many parks and pools
in the area. This is a safe and comfortable place and I have
enjoyed our family time throughout law school.
Professor Richard Kaplan is not only a great tax professor
and an expert in the field of elder law; he has become a great
friend as well. I always look forward to seeing him in the
hallways. Professor Columbo's tax class was one of my best
experiences in law school. I am amazed at how he was able
to simplify and clearly explain a difficult and complicated
subject. It gave me great appreciation for the amount of skill
and dedication it takes to teach the law effectively.
I love to paint. It's a great release from the rigors of law
school. I typically paint in acrylic on canvas as large as I
possibly can. I want people to fall into my work. I also enjoy
hosting wine parties where fellow law students, some of
whom are also artists and musicians, can come together and
celebrate each other's work.
I can't say how proud I am to have served as president of the
Latino/a Law Student Association. I met many wonderful
people and gained valuable experience in running an organization,
coordinating community service projects, helping
other students and getting everyone excited about meeting
our goals. I also served on the 2007 class gift committee.
We broke all records and I am glad to do my part to make
sure the College of Law continues to thrive.
