Fifth annual Champaign County Courtwatching Report
The College of Law and the League of Women Voters released the fifth annual Champaign County Courtwatching Report on May 11 in the State's Attorney office at the Champaign County Courthouse. The Courtwatching Report details observations from Courtroom proceedings from Fall 2008, involving nearly 100 College of Law Trial Advocacy students and the League of Women Voters' standing corps of observers. The extensive courtroom observations were aggregated and analyzed for statistical significance. During the last four years, the Courtwatching Report has revealed significant trends in the Champaign County courts and provided concrete suggestions involving courtroom proceedings, jury selection, and courtroom functions that have resulted in several initiatives to examine possible explanations and the implementation of improvements to produce more representative juries.
