Student Computer Ownership Requirement
It is an academic requirement of the University of Illinois College of Law that students own a computer. The advantage of having a formal requirement of computer ownership is that the cost of a computer can be included in a student's budget for federal and private financial aid purposes.
Although the ownership of any computer will satisfy the academic requirement, notebook computers using the Microsoft Windows XP or Windows Vista operating systems offer more utility and value than desktop computers or notebooks with other operating systems for students at the College of Law. The Apple Macintosh operating system can connect to our network and is useful for many of the tasks for which students typically use them, but it is not currently supported at the College and students who wish to use their computer for exams must use a computer that boots to Windows XP or Vista. Intel based Macs booting to the Windows Operating system are supported by our exam software vendor and can be used for exams.
Minimum Recommended Computer Specifications
Students who already own a computer should review the College's minimum recommended comptuer specifications. These are guidelines to help you determine if your system can be expected to meet your needs for the three years of law school.
