The library is committed to supporting the work of the College of Law faculty in a variety of ways.
Members of the faculty meet with the Head of Public Services soon after arriving on campus to discuss needs in terms of
the library's collection, research and teaching support, and the library's existing services as well as ideas for developing
services. At this time, faculty are introduced to the library's primary tools: the library catalog and the Online research resources, the
the systems for on-campus, I-share and ILL borrowing; and the appropriate contact persons in the library. Examples of services available
to College of Law faculty include, but are not limited to:
Self-Service:
Use the Library Catalog to find and request materials through the the "request" button at the top of the page. You will be prompted for your library Borrower ID (it begins with 20111). You can choose the Law Library as your delivery location, and our staff will have the material placed in your mailbox.
If not found, you can repeat your search in the Shared Catalog (linked from the Library Catalog search results). To request materials, click the "request" button in the catalog and enter your UIN. You can choose the Law Library as your delivery location, and our staff will have the material placed in your mailbox.
If material isn't found in the Catalog or in I-Share, you can place an Interlibrary Loan Request. Materials requested will be delivered to you via campus mail (unless they are fragile), and you will receive an email when they arrive.
Full-Service:
We are happy to handle request and delivery of all materials except Interlibrary Loan. Simply contact reference@law.uiuc.edu.
The ILL service was designed to be self-service, and makes use of your University NetID for authentication, and we cannot login under your account. For assistance with this system, feel free to contact reference or circulation staff.
In addition, the library's Circulation Department supports coursework through the maintenance of a course reserve
collection. An online exam archive is maintained through the Dean of Students' office. To place materials on reserve, contact Hal Southern, halsouth@uiuc.edu.
The library hires, trains and supervises a group of law students to serve as Research
Assistants for College of Law faculty on an as-needed basis. The library will provide as much
or as little supervision as requested, and the RA's time is billed to the faculty member's
research account.
Examples of RA work include:
- Preparation of bibliographies to support research or coursework;
- Discrete research tasks
- Bluebooking or other cite-checking of articles
- Gathering books, articles or other materials
Email reference@law.uiuc.edu or contact Amy Tomaszewski for assistance from the Reference Librarians.
Reference librarians are avaialble to give research lectures in your classes, in order to refresh students' research skills and suggest strategies for research in preparation for seminar or other papers.
