Paul D. Healey is a librarian, lawyer, and educator. He is currently on the
library faculty of the University of Illinois where he serves as Senior Reference Librarian
and Associate Professor of Library Administration at the Albert E. Jenner, Jr. Law Library.
In that role he performs reference duties, and supervises and teaches the first year legal
research course at the law school.
Professor Healey received his J.D. from the University of Iowa in 1987 and practiced
law for seven years before returning to the University of Iowa to earn a Master of Arts
in Library and Information Science. From 1995 to 1999 He was a reference librarian at
William Mitchell College of Law in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where he was heavily involved
in teaching legal research and the use of technology.
Professor Healey is active in the American Association of Law Libraries and is the
Editorial Director of AALL Spectrum, the official monthly magazine of the organization.
Professor Healey speaks regularly on Internet, library, and legal issues to professional
groups across the United States and Canada.
Professor Healey's current research interests include legal and liability issues relating
to librarianship. He has written articles for the National Law Journal, Law Library Journal,
and AALL Spectrum, among others. In addition to his other activities, Professor Healey is
pursuing a Ph.D. in Library and Information Science through the Graduate School of
Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois.
