PRESIDENTIAL STATEMENTS

The last step before a bill becomes a law is that the President must sign the bill. Often a president will release a statement concerning the bill concurrent with the signing of the bill. These statements are also part of the ‘legislative history' of a particular bill that has been enacted into law. Similarly, the President will often release a statement when he or she vetoes a piece of legislation.
