Jose Carlos Junqueira S. Meirelles graduated with an LL.B. from the University of Sao Paulo Law School (1986) and with an LL.M. at the University of Illinois College of Law, Champaign, IL (1989), José Carlos Junqueira S. Meirelles is a partner at the corporate/banking area of Pinheiro Neto’s Sao Paulo office and member of the steering committee of the firm. Specialized in the securitization area, he has participated in the structuring of several structured finance and securitization transactions in the local and international markets, including the deals for the securitization of electronic remittances effected by Banco do Brasil in 2001 and the securitization of credit card receivables effected by Visanet in 2003, which were considered the Securitization Deals of those years, respectively by the Emerging Markets Investor Magazine and the Asset Securitization Report. Mr. Meirelles has also contributed to the preparation of works and articles of the firm in connection with corporate law and banking, capital market regulations and securitization in Brazilian and foreign publications. At the invitation of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), since March 2004, he has participated in the Infrastructure Experts Group, which consists of leading practitioners from across the private and public sectors dedicated to identifying solutions to the impediments that restrict developing country access to infrastructure finance.
