Dave Johnson is completing his fourth year as the Assistant Dean for Communications at the University of Illinois College of Law, coordinating public relations and marketing efforts for one of the nation's premier public law schools. During the past four years, College of Law faculty members have become extremely visible in national electronic and print media outlets, collectively averaging nearly 80 interviews per month. College of Law faculty, students, conferences, and events are featured regularly in the national media, including outlets such as CNN, Associated Press, USA Today, NBC's "Today Show," Forbes, National Law Journal, MSNBC, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, NPR, Chicago Tribune, and Los Angeles Times.
In partnership with local CBS-TV affiliate, WCIA 3, the College produces an award-winning television show, "Illinois Law" that tackles legal topics and features faculty, students, and alumni. Dave serves as Executive Producer of the show which also airs in statewide syndication on the Illinois Channel and was named a recipient of a 2009 Silver Dome Award for Excellence in Broadcasting by the Illinois News Broadcasters Association. Dave has been with the University of Illinois in a variety of public relations and marketing capacities since 1988, including 17 years with the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics, serving as Sports Information Director and Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing. He has produced television and radio programming for more than 20 years, including serving as the Executive Producer of the Illini Sports Network and stints with ESPN, SportsChannel, and Fox Sports.
A Champaign native, Dave received his B.A. in Speech Communication from the University of Illinois in 1986 and his M.S.S. in Sport Management from the United States Sports Academy in 1987, graduating first in his class. He currently serves on the Champaign City Council as the District 5 representative and also served on the Champaign County Board for six years, including two years as Chairman of the Human Services Committee. Dave is very active in a number of community organizations, including Little League, Boy Scouts, Champaign Rotary Club and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He is married and has three children.
