Graduates, families, faculty, and honored guests are invited to join us for a casual dinner (vegetarian options available) in the Pedersen Pavilion at the College of Law, 504 East Pennsylvania Avenue, in Champaign. No tickets are required, and the College of Law Bookstore will be open during this time for browsing and last minute gifts.

The 2009 College of Law Convocation will be held in the Great Hall at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, 500 South Goodwin Avenue, in Urbana.
Parking is available in the Krannert Center garage, in metered spaces on nearby streets, and in permit lots (with the exception of 24-hour rental spaces) during commencement weekend. Please be sure to allow enough time to find parking since there are multiple graduation ceremonies on Saturday.

The Honorable Ray LaHood, U.S. Secretary of Transportation, will deliver the 2009 College of Law Convocation address on Saturday, May 16 at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. In his current Cabinet-level position, Secretary LaHood supervises an agency of 55,000 employees with an annual budget of $70 billion. Secretary LaHood served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 to 2009, representing Illinois' 18th Congressional District, which includes his home town of Peoria. During his 14-year tenure in Congress, Secretary LaHood served on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the House Appropriations Committee. Prior to his election to the House, he served as Chief of Staff to U.S. Congressman Robert Michel, whom he succeeded in representing the 18th District, and as District Administrative Assistant to Congressman Thomas Railsback. He also served in the Illinois State Legislature. Before his career in government, Secretary LaHood was a high school teacher, having received his degree from Bradley University in Peoria. He was also director of the Rock Island County Youth Services Bureau and Chief planner for the Bi-States Metropolitan Planning Commission in Illinois.
