International Criminal Processes and Human Rights: New Challenges and Opportunities
One of the most important recent legal transformations is the growth of international criminal law. There are a host of challenges and institutions that were unknown even a decade ago: the "War on Terror" and associated detentions, arrests, and prosecution; the advent of the International Criminal Court; the expansion of concepts of jurisdiction to permit domestic legal systems to punish conduct that took place far outside their borders. These phenomena have created a new opportunities and challenges to the application and spread of human rights. This conference will explore the ways that international criminal l/aw and international human rights intersect at the domestic global levels.
"The New Human Rights Arena: Transnational Criminal Law" will bring together emerging scholars who are doing cutting-edge work at the intersection of human rights, international law and criminal law. The conference will also feature some of the leading established scholars in the field.
