The University of Illinois College of Law seeks a full-time advancement professional to assume the role of Assistant Dean for Advancement. The College of Law resides on the University's flagship campus in Urbana-Champaign. Established in 1897, the College has 9,500 alumni throughout the world who hold prestigious positions in law, business, government and the academy. The College of Law boasts an exceptional faculty and student body and maintains a strong tradition of excellence in legal education.
The Assistant Dean reports both to the Dean of the College of Law and to the campus' Vice-Chancellor for Institutional Advancement. The position directs a comprehensive, diversified alumni and development program for the College and provides strategic leadership for four professional staff and one clerical staff member. The Assistant Dean is an integral member of the College of Law's senior administrative team.
Specific responsibilities of the Assistant Dean include: Development * Managing the successful completion of the College of Law's goal for Brilliant Futures, the Campaign for the University of Illinois; * Managing the Dean's and faculty members' efforts in fundraising; * Identifying, qualifying, cultivating, and soliciting major and principal gifts; * Overseeing the Annual Fund Program; * Developing law firm gift opportunities; * Ensuring donor recognition, gift stewardship, and donor relations; * Coordinating fund-raising and alumni relations efforts with campus and Foundation development professionals; * Assisting the University's development efforts;
Alumni Relations * Coordinating the annual Distinguished Alumni Awards process; * Managing the Board of Visitors meetings and related activities; * Managing special events for alumni and donors, including, but not limited to, Homecoming events, class reunions, and the annual Spring Gala dinner-dance. This position collaborates frequently with College, Campus, and University of Illinois Foundation colleagues to garner funding and set planning strategies for the College of Law.
The position requires considerable travel throughout the United States.
This is a continuous, full-time, twelve month position.
Minimum Education and Work Experience:
A Bachelor's degree is required along with a minimum of five years of successful fund raising experience. The position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, a high level of energy, and a commitment and ability to build long-term relationships. A Master's, Juris Doctor or Ph.D. degree is preferred. Progressive managerial experience within a research university or other nonprofit environment and/or within a professional school is preferred.
