About Our Students

Juris Doctor Candidates

LL.M. Candidates

Every year since 1952, a varied group of international lawyers has pursued graduate study at the College of Law. Today, the College of Law enrolls between 30 and 35 LL.M. candidates a year. Graduates include students from around the world, representing countries as diverse as Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, China, Ethiopia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria, the Philippines, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Taiwan, and Uganda.

Students study Anglo-American law in an international context, gaining practical knowledge that is essential in negotiating cross-cultural transactions. The regions of Europe, Asia and Latin America are about equally represented, with the number of students from Africa increasing in recent years. Graduate students have varying backgrounds. Some have recently completed their first law degree, or plan to continue graduate study in their home countries; others are more experienced practitioners or judges; and still others are academics seeking to broaden their teaching of the law. The combination of varied experiences and strong academic credentials contributes to a dynamic and interesting program of graduate study.
