Mark J. Wanda, 45, is Vice President of Legal Affairs-Commercial
at Sepracor Inc., a Marlborough, MA based pharmaceutical company. In his role at Sepracor,
Mark oversees a staff of five attorneys that are responsible for the commercial legal and
compliance matters for Sepracor, a company that exceed $1 billion in revenues in 2006.
Sepracor is a fully integrated pharmaceutical company that develops and commercializes its own discoveries. The company is focused primarily in the development of products that treat respiratory and central nervous system disorders. The responsibilities of Mark's teams include ensuring compliance with Federal and state fraud and abuse laws as well as the False Claims Act statute, laws that have been employed by the Department of Justice to generate significant settlements against prominent pharmaceutical companies. The Commercial legal team at Sepracor has also been responsible for ensuring reimbursement for its products under the Medicare Modernization Act, the single largest piece of social legislation enacted by Congress since the late 1960's.
Mark joined Sepracor in February 2002. Prior to Sepracor, Mark worked as Senior Corporate Counsel for Schering-Plough Corporation in Kenilworth, NJ and Fujisawa Healthcare in Deerfield, IL. Prior to working as in-house counsel in the pharmaceutical industry, Mark was an International Tax Specialist at the accounting firm of Price Waterhouse in Chicago.
Mark is a 1983 graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign College of Liberal Arts and Sciences where he obtained a degree in Finance and also completed the requirements for a degree in Economics. Mark graduated from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1986. Mark was licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in 1991. Mark is a current member of the University of Illinois College of Law Board of Visitors.
Mark resides in Northborough, MA with his wife of nine years (Alane) and his three sons (Kyle-7, Thomas-4, and Ned-18 months).
