Study Abroad Opportunities

The College of Law offers two types of opportunities to study abroad and receive credit toward the J.D. degree:

  • College of Law exchange programs
  • U of I exchange partners

These programs are open to law students who have completed their first year of study (30/33 credit hours). A full course load must be taken during the study abroad semester. To be eligible to participate, the student must be in good standing and carry a minimum GPA of 3.0.

College of Law Exchange Programs

College of Law exchange programs are available in Argentina, Belgium, Germany, India, Japan, Korea and Portugal with the following universities:

  • Universidad Catolica Argentina (UCA) — Buenos Aires, Argentina
  • Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KUL) — Leuven, Belgium
  • Friedrich-Schiller-Uniiversität — Jena, Germany
  • National Academy of Legal Studies and Research — Hyderabad, India
  • Keio Law School — Tokyo, Japan
  • Waseda School of Law — Tokyo, Japan
  • Ewha Womans University — Seoul, Korea
  • Universidade Catolica Portuguesa (UCP) — Lisbon, Portugal

University of Illinois Exchange Partners

In addition to the College of Law exchange programs, the University of Illinois maintains a number of general exchanges that are open to law students to study abroad. These programs are administered through the U of I Study Abroad Office.

  • Australian National University — Canberra, Australia
  • Chinese University of Hong Kong — Hong Kong
  • Griffith University — Brisbane, Australia
  • University of Adelaide — Adelaide, Australia
  • University of Melbourne — Melbourne, Australia

  • University of Western Australia — Perth, Australia
