Study Abroad Opportunities
The College of Law offers two types of opportunities to study abroad and receive credit toward the J.D. degree:
- College of Law exchange programs
- U of I exchange partners
These programs are open to law students who have completed their first year of study (30/33 credit hours). A full course load must be taken during the study abroad semester. To be eligible to participate, the student must be in good standing and carry a minimum GPA of 3.0.
College of Law Exchange Programs
College of Law exchange programs are available in Argentina, Belgium, Germany, India, Japan, Korea, Portugal, and Singapore with the following universities:
- Universidad Catolica Argentina (UCA) — Buenos Aires, Argentina
- Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KUL) — Leuven, Belgium
- Friedrich-Schiller-Uniiversität — Jena, Germany
- National Academy of Legal Studies and Research — Hyderabad, India
- Keio Law School — Tokyo, Japan
- Waseda School of Law — Tokyo, Japan
- Ewha Womans University — Seoul, Korea
- Universidade Catolica Portuguesa (UCP) — Lisbon, Portugal
- Singapore Management University (SMU) – Singapore
- National University of Singapore (NUS) – Singapore
- International University College of Turin - Turin, Italy
University of Illinois Exchange Partners
In addition to the College of Law exchange programs, the University of Illinois maintains a number of general exchanges that are open to law students to study abroad. These programs are administered through the U of I Study Abroad Office.

The deadline for submitting your application is February 1 for fall semester and September 15 for spring semester.
