Applicants must hold a Bachelor of Law or Juris Doctor (or equivalent degree)
from an approved law school, or have completed the formal requirements needed
to practice law in their home countries.
All applicants from countries where
English is not the official language are required to submit the results of
the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English
Language Testing System (IELTS) scores. Applicants who have been enrolled
at an institution of higher education as a full-time (minimum 12 credits per semester)
student for 2 years (within the last 5 years) in a country where English
is the primary language and in a school where English is the primary language
of instruction may be exempt from the TOEFL/IELTS requirement. The minimum
TOEFL score is 79 internet-based and must be taken within 2 years of program
term of entry (August). The minimum IELTS score is 6.5 with subscores of 6
on all four modules (Speaking, Listening, Writing and Reading).
To assist non-native speakers of English prepare for an LL.M. program,
the College of Law offers an introductory Legal English course just
prior to the LL.M. program.
In addition to one required course, Introduction to the U.S. Legal System,
students must complete at least seven other courses, which may be selected from

A minimum grade point average of approximately 3.0 based on a 4.0 scale is required.
Students usually complete the course requirements in two semesters, but it is possible
to take a lighter class schedule and complete the degree requirements during
the following summer session.
