Law 795: Criminal Sentencing and Alternatives
This course will consider the meaning of punishment in the criminal context. We will examine the substantive and procedural rules that relate to sentencing in state and federal courts, including the use of sentencing guideline systems. We will also explore some alternatives to traditional sentencing such as victim-offender mediation and restorative justice programs. This course is a must for anyone seriously considering a career in criminal law. It will also be very useful to those planning to clerk in federal court.
